Lenny

For those of you who admire and appreciate our sweet boy Lenny, and enjoy watching him help welcome all the new arrivals... the sweet pittie mix boy who has become our “mascot” and New Life Animal Rescue poster child... you may not know his rescue story.

Here are some notes from his shelter intake paperwork:

"Physical Exam- wounds on ears and face, 2cm rip wound on pinna of right ear, pinna thickened and painful on palpation, wounds on both forelimbs.

Notes: EARS BLEEDING, A LOT OF SCARS, VERY SKINNY. Right ear is split."

He then became very sick in the shelter and by the time we heard about him he had developed pneumonia. He broke our hearts with his weak cough and I had to carry him into our veterinary hospital as he had become too weak to walk.

He was touch-and-go for about a week but started gaining strength with several very small meals per day, and his lungs improved with good meds and a steam tent (I sat with him because he really just wanted someone to hold him )... slowly he became healthier and stronger...

And now he is fulfilling his mission of being the teacher, friend, and big foster brother of all the critical and scared dogs - and cats - that we save... and my “foster fail” that I just couldn’t let go.

Amazing that a dog covered in bite wounds is the most gentle, friendly boy who loves all other animals! I am so proud of this boy! So blessed and honored to be his forever mom!

Lenny is now an older senior pitizen, and he has been diagnosed with  Vertebral Chondrosarcoma.

Prognosis depends on feasibility of surgical resection, and as we’ve already learned, Lenny’s is inoperable.

At this point there is nothing that can be done to remove it or take it away. Pain management is the key; making sure he’s comfortable and has everything any dog could ever want.

Thank you for being here with us along this awesome journey! This is what rescue is all about!
